Help Talking with people
Statuses: Available, Busy, In a meeting, Do not disturb
What each status means for you and your teammates, and when it changes on its own.
The four statuses
- 🟢 Available — happy to chat. People can walk up and talk.
- 🟠 Busy — focused. You can still hear and be heard, but teammates know you'd rather not be interrupted.
- 🟣 In a meeting — you're on a call (in Grapdes or elsewhere). Like Do not disturb, but it tells people why.
- 🔴 Do not disturb — you're shut off from the office: you don't hear anyone and nobody hears you, waves and rings are blocked, chat sounds go quiet, and your mic and camera turn off.
Change it from your name at the bottom left (the status line in your menu), or with a shortcut:
| Available | ⌘/Ctrl O |
| Busy | ⌘/Ctrl I |
| Do not disturb | ⌘/Ctrl U |
A text status
In your menu, Add text status lets you add a short note next to your status — “Lunch until 2”, “Deep work”, “🎧 in a call”. Everyone sees it on your profile and in the Participants list.
When your status changes on its own
- External calls — with your Google Calendar connected, when a calendar event with a Google Meet, Zoom or Teams link starts, a card counts down and sets you In a meeting. When it ends you're back to Available. Turn this off in Settings › Do Not Disturb.
- Locked screen — on Chrome and Edge you can choose to show as Do not disturb while your computer is locked, and be Available again when you're back.
- Switching to another tab doesn't change your status — your mic and camera just pause (auto idle muting).
A status you set yourself is never overwritten by the automatic ones.
